Dave5 has a really interesting post about using the Sony Librie e-Ink device as a universal game machine. In his examples he uses the screen as a chess, checker, Ludo and other game board images as the display so the games can be played on top of the screen of the device- you could really create any game board with an e-ink device. He then goes in to what could happen with a bigger screen, e-ink pieces and networking. It’s a little glimpse of what’s to come I think. Link.

I’ve been setting up a Newton and an Emate here for a couple articles- This IM client looks really good. NewtonIM is a jabber client for the Newton Message Pad 2×000. It requires Newton Internet Enabler. Any Makers out there using a Wifi’d Newton? Link.

Here’s a good step by step on running Mac OS X on an Xbox, it’s pretty slow as you’d expect- but it’ll help pass the time until we get those new MacTels. You’ll need to software mod your Xbox and put Xebian Linux on it, have a purchased a copy of Mac OS X and made an image of it… Link.

Neat project, uses a VCR as a computer case. I decided gut the VCR and use it as a computer case. This would replace the functionality of the DVD player and video recorder with one unit that looks more like a VCR than a computer (thus keeping the wife happy). The beer is based on classic ale brewing traditions but with added guarana for added energy-boost. The recipe and the whole brand of Our Beer is published under a Creative Commons license, so anyone can use the recipe to brew the beer or to create a derivative of the recipe. You are free to earn money from Our Beer, but you have to publish the recipe under the same license and credit the original work. Link.

Great project- Katie Williams, from Brunel University in London, has created a nifty prototype of swimming goggles . The total time spent swimming, the number of laps completed and the speed traveled are shown in a tiny heads-up display inside the goggle lens, using a system that reflects information off tiny mirrors.
