I doubt I’m alone in this crowd when I say my junior high and high school self was largely influenced by obsessively reading Sassy magazine. Indeed, as a 15-year-old, it was my life dream to move to New York with my best friend and fellow high school newspaper staffer, Misty, live in a loft apartment and work at Sassy. This is what we told people all the time. It was a full-on memorized response to the, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” question. Life ended up taking us in different directions, but I’ve never let go of my love for Sassy … or my massive collection of the magazines (including Dirt. Represent.). In fact, it was Sassy that gave me my first taste of DIY with the Making It column. One of my favorite projects featured there was the pillowcase dress, and I still have the copy of the issue in which it appeared. Sassy founder, Jane Pratt, is back in the media mix with her web site xoJane, and I flipped out when I saw this re-visit to the pillowcase dress project from Mena of Sew Weekly. She’s revamped the pillowcase dress with tips on making it a bit more form-fitting and mature, but still very, very sassy. Love it.
