A demo video for the “beamz Music Performance System” laser-controlled preprogrammed MIDI gating device targeted @ non-musicians.
I don’t think it’s possible to list all of the memorable moments seen in the above video, at the very least they’re quirky, at most borderline-offensive. (The $599 pricetag alone could raise some eyebrows!) – Beamz featuring quiet reverie

The fact that it doesn’t require any actual skill only makes you look like more of a ridiculous. I calls ’em like I sees ’em.
– Hey Bob, remember those toy pianos we had when we were kids that would always play the same melody no matter in what order we hit the keys ? Why don’t we do the same with LASERs and sell it at an outrageous price ?
– Wow sounds like a business model !
Wow.
I guess someone decided that “jamming” with general midi wasn’t dorky enough already.
Still, I don’t care, great video.
If you have an Amiga sitting around, you can use my ‘Steevs MIDI Trigger’ software to replicate the same sort of thing. (The PC version is due out later this year, btw :)
Did anyone else notice that the one female who appears briefly in the above video is labelled with “Everyone Sounds Great”. It seemed rather directed toward her gender (or perhaps ethnicity?) I found that a bit creepy.
The beamz is now $499.95 and can be purchased through the company’s site: http://www.thebeamz.com. You can download and purchase additional songs there as well.
Thanks for SPAMMING, Megan, but even at $499, this piece of junk is ten times too expensive. Need proof as to the utter lameness of this *&%? Just check out the promotional video!
@Devastatin’ Dave – I understand you be devastatin’ and all, but shift into cruise and kick back – ‘beamz’ can’t hurt us here, we’re safe.
(i think?)
PS – the swear-fairies made a little edit on your comment.
