Sewing Tips: Sew Bias Binding with a Sewing Machine


Pre-packaged and handmade bias binding (also known as bias tape) is a great tool for neatly finishing the edges of garments and other sewing projects, and it’s one of my favorite ways to add a splash of contrast color to collars and hems. But, every once in a while—especially when I’m sleepy—I manage to shift the fold while I’m sewing and completely miss the back side of the binding, and then swearing and seam ripping ensues.
