Autodesk, one of the world’s most prominent creative software companies, is launching its first piece of hardware this year. And now the printer has a name — Ember.

The name reveal comes from Hilde Sevens, Autodesk’s Director of Business Development, speaking at MakerCon Nordic Edition today in Oslo Norway. It comes a few days before the opening of the Paris 3D Printshow, where Autodesk will be showing the 3D printer to the public for the first time.

Autodesk CEO Carl Bass first announced the company’s plans to make the printer at MakerCon last May in Redwood City, along with an open-source 3D-printer software endeavor called Spark. The open hardware machine will be a resin-based DLP machine that will help Autodesk demonstrate the software’s capabilities.

Since the initial announcement, Autodesk has not revealed much information about Spark beyond agreements with Dremel and Local Motors to utilize the software in the Idea Builder and Strati projects, respectively. The only images so far are renders that show a glossy black-and-red machine with a sleek data screen.

In her presentation, Sevens also announced that the Spark platform will be demonstrated at the end of 2014.
