The Series 1 from Type A Machines is now available in the Maker Shed! This 3D printer won Best in Class in our Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing for good reason. It features a huge 9″ x 9″ x 9″ build area, a competitive price, and now dual extruders for dual color or mixed media printing. The Type A is capable of 90mm/s printing with 250mm/s travels while achieving 0.1mm – 0.05mm (50 micron) layer thicknesses. So it’s accurate enough for high-resolution models, without taking forever to print them. The new Winchester extruders are made of machined aluminum and were specifically engineered with reliability in mind. A beefy torsion spring ensures that mis-feeds a thing of the past, and lever action loading makes filament changes a snap.
The Type A comes fully assembled and calibrated, so all you have to do is take it out of the box, install the software, and start printing. Make sure you stock up on 1.75mm PLA filament, once you start printing with this machine, you’ll never want to stop.

A link in the article seems like a good idea. I feel kinda lucky that the link was in the Related tab.
Oops. Followed the link in the Related tab. Didn’t get me to the item in the store. I’ll do some more sleuthing (without using Google just to see if I can find it).
Found it! Here’s the link when you get around to updating the page: http://www.makershed.com/Type_A_Machines_Series_1_3D_Printer_Dual_Extrude_p/mkta1.htm
Thanks Ross,
Strange, I swear those links were on there when I posted it. Should be all better now.
do you happen to have any information/website about the dual extruder? looking at Type A’s website doesn’t seem to have any information mentioning a dual version.
Hi Alex,
The dual extruder version is brand new (I think we got the first batch ever released for public sale) and it doesn’t look like they have much (or anything) about it on their site yet. The machine uses dual “Winchester” lever action extruders, and dual extrusion prints are supported by ReplicatorG. Is there anything specific you’d like me to find out?
thanks for the information. I guess I was wondering what it looked like as the pictures on Makershed and comparison grid still only show a single extruder version, but I can imagine how it goes together. Thanks again
I’d like to see some pics of HD sample prints! I’m really tempted to buy one right now, but I don’t kno how the new extruder style performs, and I’m wondering if there’s a heated print bed for this(or upgrade). it seemed standard on most newer printers- but it isn’t mentioned and the picture on their website looks like just glass.
Adam,
I’m not quite sure where to find HD photos of prints, but you can get an idea of what sort of things this machine can print by watching the video on the Maker Shed product page (http://www.makershed.com/Type_A_Machines_Series_1_3D_Printer_Dual_Extrude_p/mkta1.htm).
The new “Winchester” extruder is extremely robust and very easy to use. It also performs very well and is quite reliable. There is no heated print bed, or plans for an upgrade to one (as far as I know), since you typically don’t need one when printing with PLA. The platform is actually lasercut acrylic, and usually protected with some sort of tape before printing.
Hi guys,
A heated print bed is on our to-do list, but we don‘t have a timeline for it just yet. Also: thanks for feedback. Will see if we can‘t get some good pics up on our pages. If there is any specific web content you would like to see up on our page other than that, just email me: Espen@typeamachines.com – I‘m also happy to answer questions.
Thanks,
Espen
