On April 11, 2015, members of the Make: books team will be participating in the Rhode Island Robot Block Party in Providence, RI. We’ll be showing off projects from some of our recent and soon-to-be-published books. We’ll have hands-on interactive projects you can play with, including some things from our upcoming Getting Started with littleBits book, 3d-printed-in-place objects, and Raspberry Pi demos.
Have you ever taken something apart to figure out why it works? Do you wonder how cables, bearing and chains are used to create robots? Are you fascinated by the robots that explore space and the deep sea? Hoping a robot will someday help you with daily tasks beyond vacuuming? Do you want to hug a robot?
All this and more happens at the 2nd annual Rhode Island Robot Block Party—from Noon to 4 pm on April 11, 2015 at the Pizzitola Center, 235 Hope Street, Providence. A celebration of National Robotics Week, the Rhode Island Robot Block Party showcases how robots and related technology are used in industry, university research, community outreach, and K-12 education.
The Robot Block Party is put on by Rhode Island Students of the Future and the Humanity Centered Robotics Initiative at Brown University. The Rhode Island Robot Block Party is free, open to the public, and features hands-on exhibits and demonstrations from over fifty exhibitors including animatronic toys, robot gears, research on the planets, a NASA moon buggy designed by students, deep sea exploration technology, and telepresence robots.
“Robotics technology will fuel a broad array of products and solutions in manufacturing, health care, agriculture, national defense, and transportation,” said Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, Honorary Chair of the event. “Robots are also an engaging way for young students to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math. The 2nd annual Robot Block Party is a fun way to build the skills that prepare our students for a 21st century workforce.”
We hope to see you there!
