On May 23, 2015, the Wilson County Mini Maker Faire was held at the Floresville Event Center in Floresville, Texas. This was our first Mini Maker Faire and we are excited that it went as well as it did.
We had 21 Makers and Exhibitors ranging from needlework to 3D printing. We also conducted several workshops including making a Father’s Day card, a duct tape coin purse, making doodlebots, and designer duct tape flip flops. The workshops were a huge success.
Kids and adults alike made hoops, built robots, wove a pattern on an 1800’s loom, enjoyed drawing with art bots, made stop motion movies, and watched two different types of 3D printers at work. They learned how tools used to be made from flint stone and got to stamp their initial into a leather key fob.
Typewriter Rodeo wrote original Father’s Day poems for the attendees and Sheri had a children’s corner where younger ones could expend some energy. Drama Kids International even led the children in an impromptu performance to the music from Frozen!
Everyone had a great time and smiles were abundant not only on the attendees, but also on the faces of the Makers. They are all ready to come back next year when we hold our Second Annual Mini Maker Faire in September of 2016.
