Lee Meredith of Leethal.net is hosting a virtual 24-hour Make-Along this weekend.
I loved the idea of a bunch of like-minded creative people all creating their own things, but together, and going through cycles of energy, sleepiness, caffeine highs and lows, creative weirdness that happens in tired states of minds and can be awesome….. and coming out at the other end with something rad to show for it!
She’s so right. I miss those crazy days of my youth where friends and I would stay up all night, making random things and just having fun. But you don’t have to be with a group of people to participate in this weekend’s Make-Along. Lee is hosting it virtually, and is including online ways to participate. While she encourages folks to stay away from the computer during the 24-hour Make-Along, she says part of the participation requirement is to document your work during the time you choose to jump in and make stuff. Post-Make-Along, folks will be able to share their work.
The idea is to spend this designated make-a-long time making things that you wouldn’t normally be making on a weekend day. Either, trying new things you’ve been wanting to try, or devoting hours to things you normally rush through, or going back to projects you used to love and haven’t touched in years…… The point isn’t to sit on the couch and knit for 15 hours straight – the point is to really spend some quality time with things that don’t normally get your time.
For more information on the Make-Along and how you can participate, check out Lee’s blog. What do you think you’ll tackle this weekend? (Thanks, Heather!)
