It’s summer and all I want to do these days is relax with a fizzy beverage, but I can’t stand too-sweet soft drinks! In this CRAFT Video, I show you how easy it is to make your own soda at home, and it’s inexpensive, too! I use brewer’s yeast to produce carbon dioxide, and whatever flavors come to the imagination. In the video I used honey, green tea, strawberries, and grated ginger, but you can use any combination of fruits, juices, fresh herbs, and sweeteners that you like. Thanks to Matt Mets for the tea recipe inspiration.

what is the alcohol content of this drink? i bet if you drank half of the 2 liter you will get a small buzz. use welch’s grape juice and make MadDog 20/20 !!yea!!

  2. oskay says:

Ripe fruit contains about 1% alcohol; this contains less.

I’m always told that putting warm or even hot substances into a fridge will do the fridge no good. This is because the motor has to cool down the container(s) way to much, so the interior of the fridge will get iced.

Anyone has another view on this?

Putting warm things in a frige won’t hurt a thing. Refrigeratoin is a process of removing heat, so all that will happen is the motor/compressor will run a little longer.

I can’t wait to make some home made soda! I think I’ll start with some cream soda… as in vanilla flavored. :)

I stopped by Brewer’s Connection this after noon, all excited to buy some brewer’s yeast so I can get a batch of soda going.. and BUMMER.. they’re closed on Mondays!!!!

I’ll hit em up tomorrow. :)
By the way, I did a bit of research on yeast and found out that baker’s yeast will impart a nasty taste if you try to substitute it for brewer’s yeast in the fermantation of sugars.

    It should be noted…
DO NOT USE A GLASS GALLON JUG FOR THIS!!!!!!!

I did, with a half cup of honey and 1/4 teaspoon brewer’s yeast and it EXPLODED!! I came home for lunch to a mess in my kitchen.

Use a plastic 2 litre bottle.

    Oops!!!
