Garth Johnson of Extreme Craft has a knack for picking out the wacky and wonderful. He now soaks up the country life living in Humboldt County, and he did a fun post about the creative entries to the annual Decorated Potato Contest at the Humboldt County Fair (an annual event that’s been going on since 1896!). He has more pics on his Flickr page. I love that all of the entries are dioramas and the greatest tool used was clearly creativity. There’s no how-to required for this one, just old fashion low-tech fun, which is inspirational in itself. Three cheers for playing with your food!

Humbold County is my home! I am now misplaced in Michigan but Eureka is still my home in my heart. Moved here because of grandchildren. Wrong reason. I love the potatoes and you must be a nice person if you live in Humboldt County with the old hippies and the fisherman. Of course who could forget The old butterfly in the redwood tree.
