If you’ve got a bar, workshop, or breakfast nook in need of seating and you’re up for a serious weekend challenge, break out your power tools, because I’ve found the perfect project for you! If you’re ready to reach beyond beginner-level woodworking, now just might be the right time to try your hand at making your own DIY adjustable bar stools.

Ana White’s adjustable-height bar stool building plans yield sturdy and attractive industrial-looking seats, and definitely promise to deliver a satisfying build for those of you who roll your eyes at quick and easy. As you can see, the basic wooden structure of the stools is relatively straightforward, but the addition of a threaded adjustable seat makes things a bit more interesting and a whole lot more fun.

Not an ideal design for woodworking novices, the precision cuts, optional welding, and adjustment hardware make this an excellent project for the more experienced maker.

If you’re new to the wood shop and are looking for a more beginner-friendly woodworking project to help you get started, check out this Wooden Salt Cellar tutorial right here on Make.
