There are detailed instructions for doing this in an early issue of ReadyMade. I don’t think their plan involves bricks, though. It’s on the cover of whatever issue it was, and it is, of course, much more manicured.
Kevinsays:
I built a lawn couch a few years ago out of cardboard panels that were slotted to fit together. It was kind of like the cardboard insert from a case of wine, only bigger and couch shaped. I filled the open spaces half full of dirt and tamped them down to make a solid base. Then I filled them the rest of the way, seeded it with zoysia grass plugs, and watered it. I used zoysia grass so that it would have a tough skin that wouldn’t have to be mowed and wouldn’t bother my allergies. I was really sad when I had to move into an apartment and lost my couch.
