Jeremy Leung and a bunch of hackers, DIYers, crafters, and wood/metal workers are looking to get a hacker space in Phoenix, AZ up and running. They’re calling it HeatSync Labs, which is an appropriate double entendre if you know how hot it is there. If you’re interested in getting in on the fun, they’re having their second public meeting Thursday at 8pm:
We will be discussing:
1. The Hacker Space idea, what it means to us and the fun that can be had.
2. What direction we intend to go with the group.
3. Getting started on finding a location to lease/purchase for the HackerSpace.
4. A couple current projects.
5. A means to collaborate on projects while looking for a space.
6. Poll for contacts for legal(non-profit) and accounting expertise.
Snacks, drinks and good company will be provided!

From all us semi-organized DIYers in New Orleans, good luck!
To see what we have done just google us. Starting is a lot of fun and a lot of hard work!
Phoenix NEEDS a hacker space!
I wish I could make the meeting :/
Becky: is there going to be a mailing list or something that I can use to keep up with the goings on? Facebook and Twitter are *right out* for me.
Also, I don’t know what the tech-level of the group is, but I’d certainly love to volunteer some time helping get any computers and networking stuff up and running.
My name is RickO and I am one of the founding members of Heatsync Labs. I apologize in advance for the long post.
Becky:
Thank you so much for mentioning us! We really appreciate it. The more people who express interest in this group, the more likely it is that it will succeed. Thanks to you, more people will find out about us and hopefully join our community.
Gumbolabs:
Thanks for the kind words! We think that Heatsync Labs has a good chance of becoming a success. We know there are lots of makers in the valley that just need a place to meet up and share ideas.
Nate:
I’m sorry you won’t be able to make the meeting :( . Perhaps you will be able to make our next one. We will post the time/place to our blog once it has been decided. Unfortunately we do not yet have a mailing list or forum setup, however we do have our blog at http://www.heatsynclabs.org so feel free to leave comments there if you have anything you want to share. We will be posting updates to there as much as possible. We plan on making a post after our first meeting to summarize what we talked about and bring up possible topics for the next meeting.
As for helping to setup networking equipment, three of us are pretty knowledgeable with networking and the like, however more help is always appreciated. Our space right now is not permanent, we were fortunate enough to find a meeting place for free. Once we do get a permanent space though, you can guarantee we will be setting up networking gear at some point. Keep looking for updates on our site and try to make our next meetings if possible. That way when the time comes, you will know about it and you can let us know you want to help. I’m pretty sure we will be setting up a mailing list soon and once we do we will post the details on the blog. If you have any more questions you can email us at info@heatsynclabs.org .
Thanks everyone!
Wow, Thats really cool. I hope something like this starts up in Tucson. If you ever have a weekend meeting maybe I’ll drive up to Phoenix to check things out :)
