Antique bottles have always fascinated me. Here’s an amazing site with pretty much everything you need to know about identifying and dating “historic bottles.” The site is maintained by the Bureau of Land Management.
Ok, this is totally random and no one will probably read it, but I had to share. When I was younger my family moved across the country with two cars and a CB radio (pre-cell phone days). It was always interesting/funny to hear what truckers would talk about on their long trips.
Anyway, driving through Tennessee we listen to this guy tell a long story about a woman he was dating. He just felt that it wasn’t working out and in a last ditch effort for them to make a deep connection he asked her if she wanted to go “dump digging” because he liked to collect old bottles and stuff. When she declined his offer, he “knew it was over” so he took her to McDonalds, bought her a combo meal and then drove her home for good.
After it all ended there was a long, long pause from both members of the conversation (the other guy had mainly been says “uh huh”). I assume they were contemplating the life lessons of the story. Into this my mother comes on the radio:
“Patrick”
“Yes” (in a crisp manner, my dad was in the military and was very formal on the radio)
-a pause-
“Do you want to bare your soul?”
“Negative”
