Hi Sibley DIY archives

When writer and maker Hi Sibley died in 1971, the editors of Popular Mechanics dubbed him the dean of do-it-yourself. Hi wrote hundreds of articles over the years for Popular Science and Popular Mechanics, many of which are now available online through Google Books. Howard Fink has created a Hi Sibley blog and bibliography that links to many of these articles. The blog also has other news, background, and ephemera related to Hi. Good stuff.

The Hi Sibley Bibliography now has more than 500 entries. Over 300 are active links to every article authored by Hi Sibley published in Popular Mechanics and Popular Science.

I just finished building a Merry pump-around childrens ride using plans from an old Mechanic’s book, page 157, February 1949. I built it per specs, unfortunately, as the ride spins, the top wooden hand bar comes down on the childs lap almost crushing the legs. Has anyone resolved this issue? It’s a novel idea that I hope I can fix this problem.

For Merry pump around the crank has 5in if you shorten it to 3 in. it will not do that. However does yours go in a full circle, mine wont it just goes back and forth
