Kit-A-Day Giveaway: Arduino ADK TinkerKit

We’re giving away amazing kits from our new Make: Ultimate Kit Guide EVERY DAY — thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, including MakerBots!

To celebrate the release of our latest publication, the Make: Ultimate Kit Guide 2012 (and its companion website), we’re giving away at least one of the cool kits reviewed in the issue each day during the holiday season.

Today’s giveaway is for an Arduino ADK Tinkerkit (a $359 value.) Here is Make Intern Tyler Moskowite’s review from the issue:

Android rocked the physical computing landscape last spring when it announced the Android Open Accessory Development Kit (ADK), an Arduino-based platform that combines the brains and connectivity of the Android with Arduino’s wealth of open source wares for controlling physical devices. The ADK presents almost limitless potential for projects.

Now the ADK TinkerKit unleashes this potential with the new Arduino Mega ADK (also sold separately for $85), which interfaces with an Android device via a USB host, and a multitude of modules such as LEDs, relays, joysticks, potentiometers, touch and temperature sensors, and many more. One caveat: the documentation on how to work with this technology, which bridges the Arduino and Android environments, is still sparse, and working with this kit is not for the faint of heart.

To be eligible for today’s giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment below in this post. The entry period for today’s prize will be until 11:59pm PST tonight. We’ll choose one person at random, you’ll be notified by email, and you’ll have 48 hours to respond. The Winners List is kept on the Giveaway landing page. That’s it! No purchase necessary or anything else to do. Please leave only one comment per post. You can enter as many giveaways as you like until you win. This giveaway is for US residents only. You also must be 18 years old to enter (Kids: Ask your parents to enter). See the Kit-A-Day Giveaway landing page for full sweepstakes details and Official Rules.

Important Note: If you enter this drawing, when it’s over, please check the place where you registered to comment (eg. Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter). Some people are winning these kits and then not responding when we send them a message using the available means of contacting them. We want to make sure you get your giveaway!

We now have coyotes in our neighborhood that I need to protect pork chop, our pet pig from. I am working on designing a system with an automatic feeder and bell to get him into the pig shed in the afternoons and a security door to keep him in and the coyotes out. I am modifying an old garage door opener to close the door once he is inside and open it in the mornings so he can roam and root around the yard. This set would be prefect for this project – PLEASE. I thank you and Pork Chop will thank you.

I would put this to very good use. Did anyone ever notice on Fraggle Rock just how much reuse and creating or making went on in that show. Doc was always doing something. The Fraggles made a few things out of various stuff and the Doozers well they never stop building unless they ran out of supplies or room.
