I do not often use Sketch Up, but in this instance it was convenient for me to show my client the scale of the table he wanted. I created the image and was able to show him several views of the table. Once I started to collect the material for the table I changed the material of the legs to 2″ x 4″ hollow steel (in the picture I was showing 3″ x 4″).

I keep the 6′ truss  across the bottom a 3″ x 3″ hollow steel tube. For the finish and  texture of the top we discussed several options. Once we decided on a direction, I was able to provide a 1′ x 2′ sample of the way the top would look. The top is made up of the 1″ walnut strips of wood glued over 3/4 ” plywood and nailed with a pin nailer. The 23 gauge nails are so small they are nearly invisible in the final product . To make the cuts in the steel leg parts accurately I got my old metal cutting chopping band saw from storage.

As you can see it made things very simple! Enjoy the process!
