The new restaurant across from the shop asked if I’d make a simple mirror with “Employees Mush Wash Hands” engraved on it somehow. I thought about a way to make it simple and fast, because opening day was approaching. I use 0.5″ oak veneered plywood to make the circle, and poplar cut to about 1/8″ for the sides. I made it 1.5″ deep to give the frame some weight; although it’s very light, it looks heavy.

I was lucky enough to find a large mirror on the street to take my glass from. For the engraving, I was a bit nervous. I thought about engraving a plate to attach, but instead I went for it and engraved directly onto it. If this attempt failed, I could always cover it with a second attempt on a piece of brass. But there was no need — it worked out!
