CAD would be a totally legit (even wise) approach. Using my hands is just more fun for me.
I’ve also found that in working physical models, I see things I could never have deliberately designed. The way the strongman quivers, as if straining to pull the monster, is one example. I saw that while experimenting with a 2D cardboard prototype of the figure, playing with it like a puppet of sorts. I may have discovered this eventually, but I don’t think it is something I would have come upon while at the computer.
