Eleven Days Gone
Make writer Dave Prochnow shares his experiences living though the Hurricane…By hooking a DC motor to the rear hub of my bicycle with appropriate gearing, I was able to generate a fairly consistent 8V-9V power supply (see Plan1.gif). Don’t take this activity lightly. I’m a vigorous cyclist and skater practicing 50-60 miles per week. Maintaining this amount of power for roughly 30 minutes required a significant effort on my part. As they say, your mileage may vary. Link.

…low-cost water disinfecting system, which basically consists of a plastic tube and an ultraviolet light bulb, which can be run on solar power. It processes about five liters of water per minute. Ultraviolet light has been used to disinfect water for quite a while now. The inventors say the UV-Tube differs from other systems because it is inexpensive and less energy intensive.
The purpose of this experiment is to maintain a stable plasmoid ( a ball lightning ) at one atmosphere in a spherical glass vessel. This experiment uses a kind of electronic trigger which is the GMR v1.0 ( Graphite Microwave Resonator ) placed in a microwave oven working at 2.45 GHz. A magnetron is compact, has a light weight ( compared to a HV transformer with the same output power ) and it is a high power device. It is able to produce a great amount of power in a small volume most particularly in a plasmoid.
