Katamari Damacy 2 oscillating fan hack
Boingboing has a really clever Katamari Damacy hack…“This Livejournaller connected an oscillating fan to his PS2’s joystick in order to have repeat the same movements over and over again without intervention, enabling him to collection one million roses in the video game We Love Katamari Damacy.” [via] Link.
Bicycle-powered blueberry winnower
Excellent tale from the “Make” – If the field wasn’t so remote, Waldo County residents would have been treated to an unusual sight in September: Blueberry rakers merrily pedaling old bicycles that powered even-older machines used to clean the fruit. Like many good ideas, Shana Hanson’s bicycle-powered blueberry winnowers had their roots in calamity… Hanson borrowed two bicycles that were already mounted on homemade wooden frames. She removed the tires from the back wheels, and covered the inside of the rims with duct tape. Then she attached drive belts that linked the wheels to pulleys on the winnowers. It was an instant success. Link.
Custom built effects pedals
Great site and custom bass pedals, Mike writes “Once I became disgusted with trying to find a great sounding distortion/fuzz pedal for bass guitar I decided that since i knew how to solder and basic circuitry I was going to build one instead. After many hours researching on internet sites and soldering away in my basement, I have come up with two pedals that I feel have a great vintage, yet over the top, tubey fuzz to them… without the loss of bass most distortion pedals give you. Then, much to my wife’s dismay, I began to build other pedals…” Thanks Star! Link.
PSP System Firmware Version 2.50 is out
Interesting, the latest update for the PSP may lead to some new loopholes – PSPUpdates writes “We are guessing that the 2.01 update was a “hotfix” to clear the exploitable toc2rta libtiff exploit in the PSP’s photo viewer. Expect this 2.50 fix to be a more stable wall against letting hackers run homebrew applications and games on their PSPs in many ways. On the other hand, it’s easy to speculate that 2.50 could be easier to hack than 2.01 now that copyright video can be played on a memory stick, and the location free player has been added. Those two programs could open up potentially exploitable loopholes.” Link.

OPERATION: The costume
As Halloween approaches, we’re going to post some costumes and spooky goodies to make – Here’s a fun costume based on the game “Operation”. Felxis writes “Basic supplies – this is what I started with. Wire, a battery, doorbell, Krazy glue, velcro, some markers, Scotch and electrical tape. The metallic items are outlet covers, which I got from Home Depot. Really, any sort of metal will do; I just happened to like the box shape of these guys, and they make grabbing the candy a little harder”. Link. I like how it’s wired up to a doorbell buzzer.
