The Beagle Board Trainer from Tin Can Tools is a nifty daughterboard for the Beagle Board, offering level shifters for the built-in outputs such as GPIO, I2C, and SPI. This enables you to talk to 3.3v and 5v devices (the Beagle Board works with 1.8v signaling). Tin Can Tools sent me a Trainer board to take out for a spin.
The Embedded Linux Wiki has great instructions for getting up and running with the Hawkboard, but they are geared toward people using Linux. Although I’ve got a virtual machine handy running Linux, I do most of my work on the Mac, so I looked into the steps needed to boot the Hawkboard under the Mac.

A while back Schenectady Museum curator Chris Hunter came across some old pallophotophone recordings from radio station WGY. “What’s a pallophotophone?”, you might ask. Also known as the RCA Photophone, it’s an early recording device developed by GE researcher Charles Hoxie. GE Engineer Russ DeMuth, recreates a pallophotophone from Hoxie’s original design and manages to extract some rather interesting recordings.
