The Monochron, from the Maker Shed, is a completely hackable, open source clock kit that has a funky retro feel. The ATmega328 processor comes pre-programmed with a “Retro Arcade Table Tennis for Two” face but includes the Arduino bootloader making it easy to program your own custom look. The kit comes complete with all electronics (soldering required), laser cut case, and power plug.
I’m a fan of the Mac Mini. It’s not a powerhouse, but it serves well as a media hub. I’ve tried numerous set top boxes, but nothing compares to the versatility of the tiny aluminum slab. As I spoke to more makers, it started to become clear that Google+ Hangouts might just be the “next hackerspaces” — not in meat space but in the online world where skill sharing, project sharing, and collaboration can finally happen (more easily). There were are other ways to do this, but Google+ Hangouts seem to be the shiny new toy at the moment.

I love it when embroidery floss and electronics mix, and artist Tomofumi Yoshida added another one of my favorite things to this piece: the Tokyo transit map! The little map is stitched on an Arduino Mega shield.
