FashionTech Meets Mixology with DRINKBOT 2.0

David bought his first Arduino in 2007 as part of a Roomba hacking project. Since then, he has been obsessed with writing code that you can touch. David fell in love with the original Pebble smartwatch, and even more so with its successor, which allowed him to combine the beloved wearable with his passion for hardware hacking via its smartstrap functionality. Unable to part with his smartwatch sweetheart, David wrote a love letter to the Pebble community, which blossomed into Rebble, the service that keeps Pebbles ticking today, despite the company's demise in 2016. When he's not hacking on wearables, David can probably be found building a companion bot, experimenting with machine learning, growing his ever-increasing collection of dev boards, or hacking on DOS-based palmtops from the 90s.

Embedded World kicks off today in Nuremberg, Germany, and if that werenโ€™t exciting enough news on its own, a sneak peek of a thrilling new collaboration from our friends at BeagleBoard and one of our favourite FashionTech designers, Anouk Wipprecht, has us particularly enthralled. What better way to debut the new BeagleY-AI open-source single-board computer than with a revamped version of Anoukโ€™s DRINKBOT dress, which uses voice commands to deliver mixed drinks from a 3d-printed cocktail system!

The DRINKBOT 2.0 features six Adafruit Peristaltic Liquid Pumps, meaning the selected alcohols, bases, and syrups are squished through silicon tubing based on the userโ€™s selection of cocktail, ingredients, or colour. The pumps are driven by an Adafruit DC & Stepper Motor HAT, with the resulting concoction emitted into a 3d-printed cup holder, available in both dress and suit versions. A lavalier mic and USB soundcard, combined with the BeagleY-AIโ€™s advanced DSP cores provide voice interaction, while a USB power bank and liquid holder belt complete the system.
