Coding4Fun: Using X10 Hardware
Steve writes “MSDN published an article by Tony Northrup on Using X10 hardware. It has a video tutorial. I hope they ave more of these in the future”. The video shows me tackling two very common problems in my 1950’s era home. First, in my bedroom , I use two lamps to light the room. It’s annoying to have to walk across the room in the dark to turn them on, and then to reach across the bed to turn them off at night. I fixed this in about ten minutes with about $100 in X10 hardware. Link.
HOW TO make Hands-Free Shooting Rig
This is awesome. Here’s how to build a rig using an iSight, Bluetooth headset, a backpack, and a dash of AppleScript that enables you to capture images on the go by simply speaking, “take shot.” Romain Guy shows you how to build it. Link.
Make an InfoMate a DIY Ambient Orb
The InfoMate is a device that provides visual / auditory / sensory / etc. information relating to the status of various “tasks.” The tasks may range from checking email or stock quotes, to motion detectors, remote control of the coffee pot, to snail mail checkers. The InfoMate “end device” is artwork: a picture, a sculpture, or other object that integrates the electronics in such a way that it is not obviously an electronic device. The InfoMate is essentially the poor man’s Ambient Orb. Unlike the Orb, it requires a PC and internet connection to work. Link.
Magnetic Jewelry
…magnetic bracelet/choker from designer Terrence Kelleman. It’s entirely held together by magnetic force! This means that the 67 individual magnets are free to arrange and customize into a variety of design combinations and patterns. Not to mention that you can create both chokers and bracelets of varying lengths for a custom fit. I bet I could make my own as a cool present, but it’s kinda dangerous since everyone I know is laced with data. Link.
MAKE poster spotted!
This kid is the luckiest kid in the world, I don’t even have a MAKE poster. Or perhaps this is a very tiny kid, in a miniature house and this is a regular sized MAKE, then that kid is not so lucky. Link.
