When I selected Collin Cunningham as my Secret Santa recipient, I thought, “Oh, this will be a challenge!” What do you get someone who already has it all? Good looks (especially with that magnifying visor on), cutting-edge video editing equipment, and a sweet range of electronic tools for his lab. Then it dawned on me that while he always looks stylish in his Collin’s Lab videos, I never get a good look at his footwear.

I admit, I panicked a bit when I drew Matt Richardson’s name from the Santa hat. I don’t know much about Matt other than he isn’t as tall as me and he has nice hair. I ultimately decided to get Matt a Hakko FX-888 Soldering Iron, because maker needs a great soldering iron and because I once witnessed Matt soldering during a video conference so I know he is passionate about soldering. I’m also going to give him a PanaVise Jr. as well to help him out as he solders.
For this year’s MAKE Secret Santa gift exchange, I was happy to have pulled Sean Michael Ragan out of the virtual Santa hat. In an effort to help Sean become the most dangerous man alive, I’m giving him something that will help round out his already diverse knowledge base.
