We’ve gotten some of the packaged marble roll games that go on the fridge and they’ve been kind of disappointing. I really like this set that you can make yourself with plumbing pipe – Jack McKee’s site has lots of other cool stuff for kids, too!
I found this amazing marble machine on YouTube – the details are fantastic! The video is a little fuzzy, but there are some good close-ups of the workings.
The Science Museum of Minnesota’s Studio 3D has some great kid’s projects. I especially like the Marble Machine, which incorporates recycling and simple electronics and kinetics. Marble machine Related: The Way Things Go (one of our favorite DVDs!)
