If you’ve done enough making, you’ll know that being a do-it-yourselfer can create quite a ruckus at times, intentional or not! We in the Maker Shed love our group of rowdy new products, which range from melodious to totally discordant.
A true classic for DIY synth makers and circuit benders, the Atari Punk Console can kick out some ear-catching square waves. It’s easy to build and a lot of fun to play around with. It may be challenging to make traditional music with an APC, but hey-, there’s enough of that around already, right?
From the MAKE Flickr pool: 23N! (Flickr user zeni666) made this TV Bug noise instrument using a CRT TV, SN76477 noise chip, and 3 phototransistors. (Presumably) it works by feeding the output of the sound chip into the TV, where the resulting video signal then gets looped back into the circuit using the light-sensitive phototransistors.
