was reminded recently of The Swiss Family Robinson (free), a book which I never read, but whose treehouse at Disneyland I loved–all those pulleys and bridges and funny little rooms. It got me to thinking about summer reading and what I would recommend to young makers who’d like to take a break from making, and curl up under a tree to read about characters like them.
Bowling, garden gnomes, recycling – what’s not to love about this project? I have seen various incarnations of this lawn bowling game, but since it is summer, I thought it best to go with a gnome theme.

We’ve got a double header for you as we kick off final week of Maker Camp. The theme of this week is Make Believe and to get started we’re going to hangout with master costume and prop builder Shawn Thorrson at 11am PST who will show us how to make a prop hammer out of casting foam. For added inspiration, he’ll also he showing off some of the amazing props he’s created. Then at 1pm PST we’re going to hangout with Ayah Bdeir, founder and CEO of littleBits. She will lead a special Make: Believe HOA demonstrating how littleBits can help anyone use electronics to bring imagination to life. And she’ll be showing off her Unihorn Bike Helmet that you can make, too!
