Make a Wood Crate Gift Box
I really like this idea…I hate wrapping gifts. It’s the most unoriginal part of gift-giving. Although my gifts are hardly ever spectacular, my wrapping will always outshine them. I recommend using this wrapping method for giving out crowbars at Christmas. The extra irony makes the project that much sweeter. It’s really not your problem how to open the crate once the gift has been given, so don’t let anyone sucker you into opening it for them. Link.
Mozilla Plans Faster Growth for Its Browser
I really like Firefox, mostly because you can make your own browser with all the GreaseMonkey stuff…and now check this- The Mozilla Foundation, developer of the Firefox Web browser, plans to announce Wednesday that it has created a for-profit subsidiary to pursue wider potential for the software. WiGLE Data to Google Earth (KML File)
Awesome. WiGLE is an online database of Wireless Access Points (802.11A/B/G) that is contributed to by folks using Netstumbler, Kismet and other war driving tools. WiGLE has a web interface of its own as well as Java desktop client called JiGLE. Link.
Apple Mighty Mouse: Hands-On Review

MAKE pal Russell Beattie has an extremely detailed hands-on review of the new Apple Mighty Mouse with loads of pictures and screenshots. There’s no other moving parts besides the main clicker. I’m not sure what sort of magic Apple put into this thing, but it detects left, right and middle clicking accurately, even though there’s no other buttons. It’s pretty wild. What’s amusing is that I used a one-button mouse for a while when I first got my Mini, and I kept “right-clicking” using that mouse and obviously nothing happened… Link.

There’s an interview with Jason Scott, of Textfiles.com and who is also the director of the amazing new film THE BBS DOCUMENTARY. There’s an interview with Flexilis, a world record attempt on reading RFID tags from a distance. (The end result was a bit over 69 feet on top of the roof of DEFCON.) There’s an interview with one of the MAKERs of the “Bloodhound” gun, a low cost “gun” made from a Pocket PC and some off the shelf parts that can find rouge Wireless access points. There’s also an interview with one of the MAKERs who created the KegBot! It’s a linux-based beer dispensing / tracking system.
