How-To: Fine Metalworking Catch-Tray

Craft & Design Workshop

When I’m making silver jewelry, the small saw and files chomp into the metal and creates a bunch of small metal bits that collect on my lap, the floor, the table… well, you get the idea. There are special jeweler’s desks that have built-in catch-trays for filings, but the desks are expensive and focused on a single task, so I usually just drape a towel or apron over my lap to catch as much silver dust as possible. Instructables user rosederatto has the same problem and took matters into her own hands, making a slide-out catch-tray in this excellent tutorial.
