Maker Corps Wants You

Maker-Corps-logo-calibrated-red-12.20.12Our friends over at the Maker Education Initiative are looking Maker Corps recruits. If you are a young adult with an interest in making and seeking summer employment in maker education and leadership Maker Corps could be for you. Here’s the deal:ย 

If accepted as a Maker Corps Member, you will:

  • Be employed at a host siteย for the summer of 2013 to engage children and families in creative projects that develop problem-solving skills, while gaining experience serving as a community leader.ย  All host sites are youth-serving organizations such as libraries, museums, and schools.ย For a current list and map of host sites, clickย here.
  • Join a select communityย training with peers in anย online, interactive Spring Development Camp, making, inventing, collaborating, and preparing for host site placements.
  • Develop a creative portfolioย of your work, project development, and ideas to aid in future career opportunities.
  • Receive a “possibility box”ย full of materials, tools, surprises, and cool stuff designed to spark exploration and experimentation.

To qualify, you must be at least 18 years old as of April 1, 2013, be available for eight weeks of online training Aprilโ€“May and reside in one of the host site cities for the summer of 2013.ย The application deadline isย March 1.ย Please note that applications will be reviewed on a first come, first serve basis. The following is ย a small sampling of photos representing the great diversity of Maker Corps host sites. Maker Corps members can apply to parter with libraries, science and childrenโ€™s museums, schools, Girl Scouts programs, universities, hacker spaces, and various other youth- serving organizations that bring making to children.
