Diresta: Stamped Wallet

Diresta: Stamped Wallet

In each episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PT), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty MoneyHammeredAgainst the GrainTrash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. On this episode of DiResta, Jimmy makes a  smart leather wallet that he stamped with a piece of Lexan.–Stett Holbrook

Materials:
Lexan/Plexiglass
Leather
Snaps

Tools:
ShopBot Desk Top
Hammer
Sewing machine
Rivet dies
Scissors
Razor
Bandsaw

Jimmy’s Notes: I just got my very own ShopBot Desk Top! Now I must incorporate it into my typical work flow. Early on, I thought about making printing plates with the ShopBot. That led to me thinking of making an impression on leather. I have an old piece of bulletproof Lexan laying around the shop (found in the trash) . I figured this would be a strong material to make the “plate” with. In this video you see me run the cutting path on the Lexan, and then imprinting the same soft leather used in my leather pants video.  I saved the leather to make this wallet, but the logo impression makes it personal and more unique.

Love seeing something neat being done with leather. Have study leather crafting for the past year I find it nice to see something like the maker movement using it. I really like anything that combines leather and electronics. Or in this case just something fun to do.
