Weekend Watch: Better Woodwoorking with Paoson

If you’re a woodworker and what you’d really like to make are things that make it easier for you to be a better woodworker, then Suso Caamanho’s YouTube channel Paoson WoodWorking is for you. The projects and tutorials tend to be utilitarian, focusing on projects that either show you how to make hand tools or create rigs for your power tools. If you’re new to woodworking, you’ll find some basics covered. If you’re more experienced you’ll find some practical projects to recreate for your own woodshop. Either way you’re in for a clear, well-documented viewing process.

But utilitarian doesn’t mean that they’re boring. Suso absolutely nails the pacing in his videos. Information isn’t given too quickly or too slowly. All in all, it’s the kind of clear video experience I hope to find whenever I’m looking for tutorials online to learn new skills.

While he has made many videos on how to make simple, one-off rigs for woodworking, Suso has also made videos covering more complicated builds over a series of videos. One is on how to build a portable work table made to be small enough to transport by car and that uses power tools to create a scroll saw, saw table, and router. It’s a useful design that combines practicality with versatility.

One of the things that really sets this channel apart is that Suso creates templates or woodworking plans for most of his projects (which you can download for free from his blog). This makes it much easier to recreate the things you see him making in his videos. Not only is this a tool he uses, but it’s a skill he’s shared in another series of videos on using CAD software for woodworking design.
