The $100 Arcade cabinet – New episode of Hak.5

Release1X05One of my favorite web tech shows has a new episode – the $100 arcade cabinet is pretty good – “In this episode of Hak.5 Wess finishes up his sub-$100 mini arcade cabinet, Darren talks streaming audio and video, Jon dives into AJAX, and Harrison plays with metasploit. Plus the Microshaft Jackhammer 5160, special guest star Frank Linhares, guest intro by Mike Lazazzera, music by Ashley Witt, and a not-so-friendly server.” Link.

Digg.com plans expansion

Digg.com plans expansion

DiggMy favorite collective intelligence destination for finding lots of Maker projects is going to expand in to audio/video “Digg.com…a news site that some on the Web are touting as the next Slashdot, intends to branch out from tech stories and move into other news categories as well as media such as video and audio, said Digg.com CEO Jay Adelson.” I don’t think it’s the “next Slashdot”, it’s really the next Amazon – for electrons. Crochet Art by Patricia Waller

Patriciawaller
German Artist Patricia Waller uses wool and the technique of crochet to create works of art that are out of the norm in the crafts world. We love intricate detail of the artwork which helps to conveys such irony and humor in her pieces, such as “Accidents,” How to Kill Your First Love”, and “Don’t Kill Your Idols”. Thanks Olivia! Newsprint flip-flops

20072.F5C1D37AThese would make a fun project to recreate, maybe I’ll use the cover of MAKE – “these sturdy foam-core flip-flops are built into a sheet of printed foam. the foam sheet, and the soles of the flip-flops, are printed with advertisements taken from chinese newspapers, which creates a fascinating grid of numbers and characters. available in two sizes, these versatile shoes are suitable for indoor, outdoor, or shower use. shoes have soft plastic thong portion designed to lie flat against the feet. the frame has a portion that pops out for hanging on a wall.” [via] Link.

Circuit Symbols of Electronic Components

Circuit Symbols of Electronic Components

TrnpnOn this site you can view all the component symbols as well as download them, handy for all sorts of things.. “Circuit symbols are used in circuit diagrams which show how a circuit is connected together. The actual layout of the components is usually quite different from the circuit diagram. To build a circuit you need a different diagram showing the layout of the parts on stripboard or printed circuit board.” Link.
