I don’t really care for CD and DVD packaging and am always on the look out for something better. I’m not using Audible so much any more, but I still want to get some audio books once in a while. I think I’m going to try some of the audio book rental services that send out titles Netflix style. The two I found are Simply Audio Books & JitterBug. Has anyone tried these? What did you think? $20 for all you can rent in a month.
Here’s an idea that I can’t hack this week since I’m on the road…but have at it: each person who wants to publish their location can via the status of Skype/AIM/Jabber/MSN/etc. A buddy “bot” on that system reads the info and makes a KML file (Google Earth). Then you just drag all the KML files of the people who you’re looking for in to Google Earth. See our how-to on doing this with photos. These robot sculptures, created by Gordon Bennett, are made from a mixture of both old and new found objects. The parts are found in various places, including garbage dumps, basements, construction sites and garage sales. They are inspired by Norman Bel Geddes and Raymond Loewry, whose visions of the “Modern Age” helped shape industrial design in the ’40s and ’50s. Link.
There are a few “secrets of the trade” in making your own pizza; once you know them, it is not hard to make your own and it takes very little time. In fact, after you make it a few times you’ll wonder why I made such a big deal out of it. Link.
The system uses GPS technologies integrated with a community maintained database to allow people to explore their local wireless networks. There is an emphasis on pioneering and exploration as users seek out new nodes to extend the database. Every action performed by the user is broadcasted to a central server for anyone to see. Link.
A selection of large robot collections from around the world. The main collection is the Robot Hut Museum: it has over 3000 robots. This includes toy robots from the 1940s up to 2005, and full-scale movie robot reproductions like Robby, B9, Gort, C3PO, R2D2, Silent Running Drones, the Target Earth robot and Dr. Satin’s robot from the 1930s.
