DIY Book Assembly

Page-Img 0669 Here’s some really good photo documentation of binding books. Printing, threading and the part I was most interested in – making and gluing a cover. Put a nice coverage of glue on the spine of your signatures. I also like to put some glue on the inside of the cover along the spine, making a little side to side pattern. Try not to get any glue on the face of the pages or the inside covers. If you make a mess just wipe it up. [via] Link.

I’m hoping the author can release/post the source in another country where the law permits more fair use (Google cache is still up)….The DVD Decrypter author has announced that he has been served with an order to cease his development of DVD Decrypter. The developer has been forced to hand over all source code and the domain that he was using. It is thought that it could be Sony who have served this notice, as it is rumoured that he broke their new copyright protection within 72 hours of its release. [via] Link.

Car Cam Project

Car Cam Project

Image1 A Do-it-yourself “Need for speed” car camera project! I had a Logitech Quickcam Express webcam for 3 years which sucked all the time. It had a very poor video quality and didn’t work well in my dimmed room. So I decided to mount it in front of my car. He even uses the USB cam on a Mac with the open source drivers (iSight not needed) Link.

Future hacks: Mac on PCs

Apple is moving to Intel, this is good for Makers and PC modders out there. Current Apple hardware and older hardware is about to get cheap(er) and used for all sorts of things. 2. We’ll be able to run Mac OS on PCs and Windows on Macs, granted a lot of hackery will be required to make this work for unsupported hardware- but we’ll see all sorts of fun projects, mods and mutants once the dev kit and builds start getting out in the wild. Sustainable technology PDFs

Sustainable technology PDFs

91Cover Chris writes “Selected articles from past issues of ReNew magazine (sustainable technology – lots of DIY/MAKE-type articles). Of interest in light of recent blog entries see “Issue 83: Biodiesel on the farm – One Victorian farmer is running all his vehicles and machinery on biodiesel he makes from his own oilseed crop. He even supplies his own biodiesel recipe tips.” I’ll be reading a lot of these! Link.
