While gluing cubes together may seem like a terribly limited method of building 3D models, their software is easy to use and some types of parts–like puzzles and puzzle pieces–are well-suited to this kind of modeling. Shown uppermost is a marble maze that our own Matt Mets produced with 3DTin and printed on a MakerBot. For their part, MakerBot Industries seems to be excited about the concept: 3DTIn has just added a direct export-to-Thingiverse feature to their interface.
Master puzzle maker Oskar van Deventer has created the monster truck of rubiks cubes. With 289 squares to a face, this behemoth should keep the speed cubing folks busy for a while.
Well, OK, admittedly Tal Golesworthy had a team of respected doctors and medical imaging experts to consult with, but, as he puts it, “[w]hen you’ve got the scalpel of Damocles hanging over your sternum, it motivates you into making things happen and so they do.” Only two years elapsed between his fateful diagnosis and his recent successful surgery.
