PBS’s site has a neat game where you listen to retro game sounds and try to guess which game they’re from. I got 15 out of 18, a couple of the games I never played back then or ROM now. This would be a fun category for Jeopardy. The site also has some other retro game trivia too. Link.
Some good news, hopefully in a few weeks we’ll be able to run our own apps on the new firmware – Some very interesting things going on in the PSP hacking world. It would seem that someone has gotten the DATA.PSP files from the various update EBOOT.PBP files decrypted. This is the next step in unlocking the secrets of the PSP’s firmware. How to flash/re-flash, and modifying firmware files to suit individual hacker’s needs, etc…Link.
DDRLord says it best, here’s why NOT updating the PSP to crippleware 2.0 is better- you’d lose “…a web browser, an SNES, an NES, a Lynx, a Gameboy Color, a Gameboy Advance, a Neo Geo CD, a Turbo Grafx 16, a Genesis, a Master System, a Game Gear, a Neo Geo Pocket, and Amiga, a Chip8 system, an MSX, MAME, a Wonderswan, a VMU, Nethack, Angband, ToME, an eBook reader, a calculator, a scheduler, a calendar, Scumm games, a Sudoku game, a portable VNC client, an X86 emulator, irda transfer programs, remote controls, vCard reader, FTP server, avi player, advanced music player, drum kits, file browsers, an easy to learn coding environment, graphic changing program, a fullscreen movie player, a scrabble assistant, a notepad, a dictionary, and all that other garbage.Link and update (don’t do it).
That is a lot of games…There are 1313 NES games (82 boxed and 54 complete), 530 SNES games (38 boxed and 27 complete), and 237 N64 games (10 complete and 8 boxed). NES: Blackjack, Chubby Cherub, Castle of Deceit, Dragon Warrior 3, Final Fantasy, King Neptune’s Adventure, Ms Pac-Man (tengen), Ms. Pac-Man (namco), Nobunaga’s Ambition 2, North & South, Panic Restaurant, 2 Princess Tomato, and Tagin’ Dragon. SNES: 3 Chrono Trigger, 4 Earth Bound, 2 E.V.O., Final Fantasy 2, 2 Final Fantasy 3, 2 Final Fight 3, Final Fight Guy, King of Dragons, 2 Lemmings 2, 2 Mega Man X2, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Ogre Battle, 2 Secret of Mana, and 3 Super Mario RPG. Guess what? I’m using Google’s “talk” IM service right now. It’s pretty simple, just added the server in iChat, used my google username and pass and now I’m using google’s jabber server (you can add me, torrone@gmail.com). Adding the account, I needed to try connect with and without SSL, and finally me online using their server. Here’s another HOW TO – Link. UPDATE: Get the Google client with VOIP and more here! Wow!
Very clever…simple, customisable, do-it-yourself signage system. By “blacking out” elements of a 14-segment display font on the tape, all you need is a black permanent pen to create your own temporary signs, labels and installations. Think moving house and labelling boxes, putting up official-looking signs or teaching your kids how to make letters. [via] Link.
TI Calculator enthusiasts rejoice. A few weeks ago, Dan Englender released a new flash application usb8x. Usb8x is a driver that interfaces with the On-the-Go USB port in the TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. It is designed to be used by other programmers to create drivers for a variety of USB peripherals, including a keyboard and mouse.Link.
