AizeMashehu’s writes “I built two fan controllers into a happy-face baybus for two sets of fan arrays so I can hear the sound of silence while the eight large fans chug-a-lug-lug. One knob on the new fanbus controlls the two rear 80mm fans blowing into the water-cooling radiator (in addition to the existing 120mm fan with rear-mounted speed control knob sucking air out of the radiator from the other side) and the other knob controls the 2 front 80mm fans that blow air around 5 of the fastest hard drives in the machine. You can see a close up as well as an explaination of the switch here and the main machine that this is wired to in the other photos in this series.”Link.
Scott writes “For those who don’t already know, the Gimp is a powerful, open source image editing application. For more info on the Gimp visit gimp.org. GIMPshop is essentially the same program with some cosmetic changes. The Gimp’s menu structure and naming conventions had been a constant source of frustration for me because I was so used to Photoshop. So, I did what any hardcore graphics geek would have done. I hacked GIMPshop together.” New version! Link.
There are a lot of homemade versions of this lately, but here’s a really cool way to pilot your RC chopper – “HeliHobby’s True Vision is a state of the art device which includes a high quality sub-micro camera, sub-micro transmitter ( 2.4GHZ ), base receiver and coupled with EyeTops’s high resolution LCD Eyewear to give you the only True Vision when flying any size R/C Helicopter. True Vision is the only system which will allow you to fly your R/C Machine in first person view as well as third person virew simultaneously.” [via] Link.
CNET has a video of the dino-bot I want to take apart and tinker with…“From the makers of Furby: your very own domestic dinosaur At Demo ’06, CNET’s Rafe Needleman takes a close look at the Pleo dino-bot with Ugobe’s CEO Bob Christopher and inventor Caleb Chung.”Link.
Some folks have received their Kraft game pad and started taking it apart – check out what some of our Makers are up to…“I’ve received my Kraft GamePad and despite not being “officially supported”, it works fine under OS X. Unfortunately, the Up-Down-Left-Right buttons map to a hatswitch, which means pressing [Left][Right] simultaneously doesn’t register properly. Is it this way under Windows, too? Anyway, the joystick reports having four unused buttons (6-10) and I’m already receiving requests from my family to “fix it or something.” Anyone taken a square-tip driver to the hard plastic box at the top of the unit and see what’s underneath? I’m looking for any tips before popping the case.”Link.
Spotted this on DIYlive…“This stereo encoder is the perfect solution for those looking for a high quality stereo sound transmission at a low cost. This stereo encoder produces an excellent crystal clear stereo sound and very good channel separation that can match with many more expensive stereo encoders that are available on the market. It is all possible thanks to a 38KHz quartz crystal that controls the 19kHz pilot tone, so you will never have to calibrate or re-adjust the circuit.” [via] Link.
Shawn writes “Here’s how to modify Fisher-Price Pixelcam (Pixelvision) camera to output audio/video via RCA cables for direct hook-up to TV/VCR/DV camera, rather than have to use crappy tape-drive in camera with RF output. Good instructions. Only thing missing is a pict of where to connect power cables.”Image – Link.
