Extinct robots! Dance party & cute robot soccer
Two videos, both containing advanced robots – now extinct. From the cute AIBO to the child-like QRIO, look back on simpler times when robots lived among us… danced and played soccer.
Making a robot can be an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s the perfect combination of creativity, engineering and problem solving. However, if you’re just getting started in robotics, it can also be overwhelming. To make things easier for those who are just starting out, we’ve put together some tips and tricks to help makers bring robots to life! From the basics of assembling your robot to software implementation, these pointers will give you everything you need to get started on your robotic adventure!

I’m converting a Twitchie kit into a finger-controlled robot arm. I built a little servo breakout on some perfboard, and added pin headers to plug a flex sensor into it, making a voltage divider circuit for the Arduino. This means the angle of the servos changes (rapidly!) as you bend the sensor. I’ll be attaching […]
@NYC Toy Fair 2009 – Not too much new stuff from HEXBUG this year – the only new product I saw was the “Inchworm” – which reminds me of the Gakken metal kit (also called Inchworm) we have at MAKE.
@NYC Toy Fair 2009 – A returning favorite, OWI robotics – this year they introduced a slew of “green” robot kits as well as a USB controlled robot arm. In 1980, OWI Incorporated, was looking for a way to expand its consumer product lines and bring its extensive technology background to the educational community. RobotiKitsâ„¢ […]
@NYC Toy Fair 2009 – many of us know Erector as the iconic metal building “toy” for kids. Erector Set is the trade name of a toy construction set that was wildly popular in the United States during much of the 20th century. Like Meccano that was patented in 1901, it consists of collections of […]
Here are some photos from the upcoming Maker Workshop segment where John Park makes some awesome mini-robots. We were motivated to do this segment after reading the original article from Volume 06 of MAKE magazine. Huge thanks to Gareth Branwyn for sharing his valuable knowledge with our production team, and to the Twin Cities Robotics […]
Howard Gordon, of Surveyor Corporation, makers of the SRV-1 Blackfin robot platform, sent us a link to this software collaboration they did with Jeffrey Nelson, builder of the Forknife robot. Jeffrey developed an open-source Android console for the SRV-1 that allows you to remotely control and see the camera feed of the bot from a […]
