Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these people come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.

We all know about the Call for Makers by now: makers across Europe are invited to present their projects and ideas by June 2, 2013, to take part for free at Rome’s Maker Faire. But very few of us know the story behind the photo used for the call – the one with the hand holding the giant magnet that is attracting a whole swarm of objects.
Makerspaces are becoming more and more popular. If you are not familiar, a makerspace or hackerspace is a place for people to gather and make stuff. Each is pretty much unique, but they all share a sense of community and a joy for making things and sharing knowledge. However, even if you are lucky enough to live close to one, it may not be particularly kid-friendly. So, where should you take your young makers when they want a place to turn their ideas into reality with their own hands?
That’s an excellent question. So I did some research and here are five great places you can go with you kids to make things.
