HP’s User Serviceable All-in-One Workstation
The Z1 isn’t even supposed to ship until April, so it’s all just hype right now. But it’s working on me. Will be curious to hear what the early adopters report. [Thanks, Phil!] HP Z1 Workstation

Not much detail, but I love the look of this handmade TV-B-Gone Flickr user nausk! submitted to the MAKE Flickr pool.
Although the chrome-plated keys are, IMHO, a rather more questionable design choice, this stunning Wersi Digital DX500 organ and speaker set currently for sale just goes to support my pet theory that transparent-cased electronics, preferably of the colorless “water white” variety, have timeless aesthetic appeal. Spotted in the MAKE Flickr Pool, this 3D printed set of chassis components from user nathanmatsuda:
So far I’ve made end panels for the duemilanove and the ethernet shield. Next up- a new top piece that’ll have an opening for the prototyping shield. Also planning a top piece for the touch shield (but I don’t have one of those yet).
The parts are available through Shapeways.
I am loving the DIY gadget aesthetics of these FernSprecher voice-memo machines made from old telephone handsets by Jörg Schatzmann of Berlin. FernSprecher, one of the German words for telephone, literally means “remote speaker.” One button records a message, the other plays it back. [Thanks, Jörg!]
I, too, was impressed when Apple unveiled its integrated antenna case design at the iPhone 4 announcement event back in May. Little did I know the actual reception of the iPhone 4 would be worse than my original first generation (OG) iPhone. The issue has even prompted Apple to seek out actual antenna engineers (seriously). Until there’s an official fix to this problem, folks experiencing the “death grip” can try Oliver Nelson’s 99-cent “Ghetto iPhone 4 case”.
Brooklyn-based sandbenders EXOvault iPhone Cases made a big splash back in February when they first introduced these custom cases machined from solid billet aluminum and/or brass. They’ve expanded their product line since then to add fancy engraving and rosewood inlay, and their prices seem quite reasonable, starting at $110 for the basic aluminum model shown above and ranging up to $165 for the fancy engraved brass version.
