Marielle Riley is a freshman in college pursuing the field of architecture of computer science. I recently meet her father and he told me about a cool Arduino-driven costume Marielle made that had movable antennae. I asked her to tell me about it. Here’s what she wrote: Making costumes has always been one of my […]
It obviously wouldn’t be Comic-Con without the amazing sci-fi and fantasy costumes out in full force. This is nerd Mardi Gras where everyone is given (and a surprising number proudly accept) license to let their freak flags fly. And fly they do. I loved it, although it is such a rich-pageant overload that, over time, […]
Master costume maker, Shawn Thorsson, wowed the crowds at Maker Faire again this year with his impressive Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine costumes. It was amazing, especially being a 40K player, to see these giant armor-clad, genetically-modified super humans patrolling the aisles of Expo Hall. Space Marines are HUGE!
Calling all Trekkies … Croshame has a new pattern just for you! These little cuties will show off your nerdly Trekkie fanboy/girl status while also keeping your ears toasty warm! It’s a really quick little project that works up in under a half hour. [via Pinterest] Related: Spock Quilt Spock Seed Bead Art Spock Matza […]
More sci-fi cosplay badness from prop-maker, costumer, and MAKE pal Shawn Thorsson. I haven’t played Dead Space 2, yet, but I enjoyed the first one, and I have to say that protagonist Isaac Clarke’s “Engineering RIG suit” looks exactly the same to me. And Shawn’s version is pretty spot-on. Lots of details over at Shawn’s blog, and more pics in his Flickr set. [Thanks, Shawn!]
Halloween was made for makers. Let’s face it, there’s only so much fun you can have with homemade Christmas tree ornaments. Saint Patrick’s Day is pretty much limited to coloring your homebrew green, and on the Fourth of July, homemade fireworks are usually a bad idea (or at least that’s what the local police keep telling me).
