Make a Dulcimer
A great kit will allow you to make something you probably wouldn’t make any other way. You are given all the parts, and then you assemble and finish. Musical instruments, with their exactness, fit into that category for me. Years ago I used this kit to make a simple dulcimer. It was easy to build, and beautiful to behold and hear. Link.
The purpose of this experiment is to maintain a stable plasmoid ( a ball lightning ) at one atmosphere in a spherical glass vessel. This experiment uses a kind of electronic trigger which is the GMR v1.0 ( Graphite Microwave Resonator ) placed in a microwave oven working at 2.45 GHz. A magnetron is compact, has a light weight ( compared to a HV transformer with the same output power ) and it is a high power device. It is able to produce a great amount of power in a small volume most particularly in a plasmoid.
Here’s a PDF you can print out and construct your own iPod nano out of paper. The site is in Spanish, but it’s pretty easy to figure out what needs to be done, and it’s actual size too!
A web server is software that continuously runs on a computer and allows other computers to download documents from it. This text that you’re reading right travelled over a network connection from Lifehacker’s hosting web server to your browser. Web servers are usually loud, scary, headless machines in cold windowless rooms, but you can run one under your desk at home.
...free project plans cover farm machines, the woodshop, machine shop, boats, and more. These vintage plans come from a half-century ago when do-it-yourself enthusiasts turned wood, metal and old motors into useful workhorses, functional tools, and toys. Thanks Edward!
Very handy- This project will show you how to use an AnyVolt Mini to make an adjustable voltage supply that will let you power lots of household gadgets (a pocket tv, Nintendo DS etc) from your computer’s USB port. The ‘Mini will help you do this by taking 5V from the USB port, and converting it into anywhere from 1.25V to 14V according to what your gadget requires.
