A Bit of Bees Knees featured these really rad room-changing lamps made out of beautiful birch trees by design company Bleu Nature. The DIYer in me is inspired to craft with nature this weekend.
Nothing improves a room like good lighting, and you don’t even need fancy materials to DIY your own new pendant lamp when you have great tutorials like this Cardboard Pendant Lamp by Chelsea from Lovely Indeed seen on Poppytalk.
Ben Light has really been getting into working with the CNC machine, and it shows with his latest creation the Turn Table Lamp. The user simply spins this plywood lamp to adjust the brightness. At first I thought there were some electronics involved to achieve this, but it’s actually done with a pair of polarizing lenses — a simple technique that yields a beautiful effect.
Done in the traditional stained glass technique of using lead and copper foil, Ben Light brings a different take on the craft by using laser-cut pieces of acrylic. Surprisingly the acrylic didn’t melt despite the necessary heat that was applied. The result is a great proof of concept for more complex works.
An inspired idea grown in a makerspace can produce retro magic. That’s the message from 8bitlit collaborators Bryan and Adam. In less than two months, they’ve gone from concept through prototyping to small scale production. Their touch-sensitive Mario Brothers-themed pendant lamp is starting to sell. “Da-ding!”
Ben Light made these simple and elegant “Clamp Lamps” for his workshop. The wooden bases attach easily to the end of a bench or table with a simple C clamp, and have gooseneck attachments upon the ends of which one can attach all manner of objects, such as a lamp or magnifying glass. These could be great accessories for your Helping Hands or Panavise, but also have a nice clean look on their own.
