Following an accident that damaged some of his written lab notes, biologist and photographer Colin Purrington undertook to choose his next laboratory writing instrument more scientifically. The test set included 20 pens and 1 pencil. As a brand, the Japanese-made Sakura Gelly Roll pens, like those shown here, stand out for fade- and bleed-resistance under the tested conditions.
This piece (“Weapons of Mass Destruction Q76T14 W5”) can be seen with at least six of Brooklyn artist Justin Amrhein’s similar works at San Francisco’s Michael Rosenthal Gallery from June 25 to July 30, and online at Justin’s site.

Kate Pruitt posted a clever Notebook Lunchbag tutorial on Design*Sponge. She used striped canvas fabric and a sewn red line to replicate the look of notebook paper and then wrote a sweet little message on it in black fabric pen.
