There’s something about shipping pallets that makers are drawn to. They’re easily obtainable on the roadside or by dumpster diving (don’t steal!), the form-factor lends itself to certain types of construction, and the rustic finish is just appealing in terms of aesthetics.
We’ve seen our share of projects using shipping pallets, but at 20′ square, Forêt II may take the cake in terms of scale. The cubic structure, built by Phil Allard and Justin Duchesneau, is designed as a meditation space for passersby.
If you don’t reclaim enough pallet lumber to justify a specialized prybar for the purpose, it is of course possible to knock down shipping pallets using everyday hand tools.
