Zine-making is also a fantastic activity for kids. Not only are zines a fun means of creative expression, making them gives kids a little insight into how published books and magazines are made, and may help them think more critically about what goes into those mainstream publications.
Whoever would have thought you’d be able to buy and read zines (arty, punky, small-circulation magazines) on the New York City subway? Well, you can, at least until July 20th, thanks to The Newsstand, a curious and cool pop-up shop in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Avenue station.
I strive to go to as many arts and craft fairs as I can during the holidays, to scout emerging makers and crafters whose wares I’ve never seen before, and of course to buy handmade gifts for friends and family! Which means I’m especially looking forward to the 7th Annual BUST Magazine Craftacular next month in NYC.
